building block #9

Written by Jon McDugle on . Posted in WBC Blog

It’s a fitting week to tag this building block as Mother’s day is coming up on Sunday.

Building block #9 is OTHER’S FIRST!  “Mom” is one of the best examples of what this looks like in everyday life.

It’s playing the game of life to lift those around us.

Success in life is not about what we accomplish but what we help others accomplish.

It won’t be how many trophies are catching dust in my garage but rather did I someone reach their dream?

Once again Jesus shows us the way – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others about yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.  In your relationships with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 2.3-5).

Have a great day lifting those around you!

your brother,

building blocks of success: block 5

Written by Jon McDugle on . Posted in WBC Blog

It’s time to drop the 5th and final block that forms the foundation level of our pyramid of success:  HUMILITY.

This is a law of the universe as true as gravity – “Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4.10)  That’s the up side.  Here’s the down side – “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (James 4.6).  When we live with humility we secure the favor or God.  When pride is fueling our motives God Himself is setting up “road blocks” as we try to do what we do!

The secret to a successful life is a passionate pursuit of humility and a deathly fear of pride.

What is humility?  C.J. Mahaney in his book “Humility – true greatness” writes – “Humility is honestly assessing ourselves in light of God’s holiness and our sinfulness.”  As we draw close to God it’s a journey into deeper levels of humility.  On the interpersonal level Jesus shows us what humility looks like as He washes the disciples feet (John 13) and then humbles Himself to take our sin and suffer and die in our place (Philippians 2.5-11).

Right now the Miami Heat are on a winning streak of 19+ games in the NBA which is impressive.  The secret to the streak is that they’re playing for one another.  But this came at a cost.  Dwaine Wade, a superstar, humbled himself and gave Lebron James permission to lead the team and play his game without worrying about Dwaine.  Lebron will get “his” down here but Dwaine just scored big where it matters!

May God give us the grace to pursue ” TRUE GREAT” – humility!

Your brother,
