One Word

January 9, 2019 | Tyson Herald

Each year we challenge everyone who's a part of West Bridge to prayerfully consider picking one word, based off a verse in the Bible to focus on for the year. This comes from the book My One Word by Mike Ashcraft. http://myoneword.org The concept is that we'll make lots of lists, try and memorize verses and embark on lots of pursuits in 2019. Instead, we should consistently work on one word, one truth, based on a verse and that can be powerful.

For the past 2 years I've had the word joy based on 1 Timothy 6:6.  I didn't quite arrive on the word after the first year so I kept it up for another year.

My one word for this year is "If". That may seem like a strange word but it's based off James 4:15, "If it's the Lord's will we'll do this or that." It's usually used to introduce a conditional clause (no, I didn't know that and had to look it up) and means: in the event that, or allowing that.  It's used so many times in scripture (James 4:17, 2 Chron 7:14, John 15:14, John 13:17, 1 Cor. 15:14 and hundreds more) Sometimes it's a condition of what God will do and other times it's a condition he's calling us to. I'm trying to hold my hands open to what God may want me to do in 2019. "If" God wants me to do it, Lord give me the strength to see it thru.
